5 Tips for Learning Photography

Photography can be a great hobby, or it can turn into a part-time or full-time income. Even those who participate in photography just for fun will often want to improve their skills and understanding in order to get better results. 1. Take Lots of Photos

The best way to learn and improve is simply to take as many photos as possible. Take the time to read your camera's manual, and you may even want to purchase a book that covers the specifics of your camera, if one is available. If you do not know what your camera can do or how to do it you will be missing out and your results will not be as good as they could be. When you know your camera well and what it is capable of you will be able to create impressive photos.

3. Read Photography Books

In addition to practicing and getting to know the technical details of your camera, it's also extremely helpful if you know basic photography (or in some cases, design) principles. You can learn a lot about composition and how to take great photos by reading any number of books on photography. Head over to Amazon and search through the photography books to see what you would like to learn about and what interests
you.

4. Follow Photography Websites and Blogs

There are a lot of great blogs and websites that regularly publish tips and articles that are aimed at helping readers to improve their photography. While reading should not take the place of practicing, it can help if you are getting tips from talented photographers. Find a few sites or blogs that you like and follow them on a regular basis. Sign up to receive new posts by email or RSS and you'll never miss an update.

5. Challenge Yourself

While you are protracting by taking lots of photos, mix it up and try some different things. Do not only take landscape photos. Mix in some variety and try things like portraits, photo journalism, and anything else that will challenge and interest you. Pushing your boundaries will help you to learn and grow, and chances are you'll find some new types of photography that you really like.
